To the delight of fans everywhere, Universal Pictures has announced not one, but two upcoming sequels in the Halloween series. It seems the battle between The Shape and Laurie Strode is not over. Both films will continue the storyline that began in 2018’s Halloween. In the words of Tommy Doyle,“You can’t kill the Boogeyman”
Up first will be Halloween Kills which is slated for release October 16, 2020. David Gordon Green will once again be returning to the director’s chair. Danny McBride and Green are also returning as writers along with Scott Teems. Almost a year to the day, fans can expect to see the other sequel Halloween Ends which is scheduled for release, October 15, 2021.
According to Universal Pictures, Halloween Ends will also be directed by David Gordon Green. Jaime Lee Curtis will be returning as Laurie Strode. Universal will be working with Trancas International Films, Miramax and Blumhouse Productions for the new features. I am anxious to see if Nick Castle will be returning as Michael Myers in one or both new films.
With a lot of the same players from 2018 returning, hopefully they can recapture the success of the previous outing. Halloween (2018) grossed over $250 million making in the most successful of the entire series.
A teaser trailer was also released by Universal, which informs viewers “The saga of Michael Myers and Laurie Strode isn’t over”. Jaime Lee Curtis also informed fans and followers on Twitter that “It ain’t over till the fat lady sings”. As a huge fan of the series, and of the 2018 reboot, I am optimistic for these follow up efforts.
