Frightfest 2017 Interview: Fiona Dourif Talks Cult Of Chucky

Kane Hodder - Jennifer Tilly

Curse Of Chucky marked a significant return to form for a series long considered dead (though certain fans, including myself, retain a soft spot for the likes of Bride and even Seed). The killer doll with the dirty mouth was back to his brutal best, driving a brand-new heroine (Fiona Dourif’s wheelchair-bound Nica) to the very limits of her sanity by, among other things, slaughtering her family right in front of her.

Anticipation was understandably high for the follow-up, Cult Of Chucky, which, as the title suggests, finds Chucky with a handful of murderous fellow dolls in tow laying waste to the mental asylum in which poor Nica has found herself stuck. True to form, series stalwarts including Andy Barclay himself, Alex Vincent, return to scupper his plans. Or, in the case of long-time paramour Tiffany, help in any way she can.

The return of Chucky’s one-time Bride will please fans of the series no end and to say the legendary Jennifer Tilly steals every scene she’s in would be a massive understatement. Cult isn’t rewriting the rule-book, nor is it a lazy rehash of everything that’s come before. If anything, the flick is a (mostly) entertaining mixture of old and new. A fine seventh installment if ever there was one. Check out our review of the movie here.

Cult Of Chucky sees Chucky return to terrorize his human victim, Nica. Meanwhile, the killer doll has some scores to settle with his old enemies, with the help of his former wife, Tiffany

Cult Of Chucky stars Tilly, along with returning stars Barclay, Jennifer Dourif, Brad Dourif (as the voice of Chucky) and newcomers including Zak Santiago and Adam Hurtig.

Wicked Horror caught up with Fiona Dourif to discuss the series’ longevity, whether Chucky is a pain to work with, and what it’s like (sort of) working opposite her father.
