While doing press for the Vestron Video Wishmaster collection (review) Andrew Divoff opened up to Geekadelphia about his departure from the Wishmaster franchise and weighed in on playing the role one more time.
Why Didn’t Andrew Divoff Return for Wishmaster 3 or 4?
As for why he didn’t return for the third of fourth installments Divoff explained: “Well, all I will say is at the time; we agreed to go our separate ways. I had actually written number three and presented my script. I was a little too well, how should I say, overshooting the mark with what could be expected from special effects at some of the things that were included in my script; like gargoyles on buildings coming to life and coming down into the street and that sort of thing. That would have been, as we had discussed, the budget for that one outweighed the rest of the films.”
What Would Divoff’s One Wish be?
Th actor still has plenty of love for the franchise and hasn’t ruled out a return to the property at some point. Saying: “Well, you know what, if I had one I might as well go ahead and say it. Wishmaster 5. I will answer the lingering question, I would love to do it again. But whether it is me or not I think the franchise has a lot of life left in it.”
Andrew Divoff is the face of the Wishmaster franchise for many fans. It’s not hard to see why. The two installments in which he appears are easily the best of the series. There actor brings a charisma to the role that is sorely lacking from the latter installments.
In the Wishmaster films, some unlucky soul inevitably unleashes the Djinn. The Djinn then wreaks havoc and pandemonium of apocalyptic proportions on whomever set him free. The evil genie typically has a master plan to bring the world to an end. And the person responsible for freeing him must then work to prevent the end of the world as we know it.
