Bride of Re-Animator, Society, Return of the Living Dead 3 and The Dentist director Brian Yuzna should be well-known to fans of ’80s horror. In addition to his features as director, he produced such iconic horror hits as Re-Animator and From Beyond. Sadly, though, we haven’t seen much of him in some time. His last feature directing effort was Amphibious Creatures of the Deep in 2010 and things have been quiet since.
That might be about to change with The Plastic Surgeon. The film will re-team Yuzna with Dentist star Corbin Bernsen. In fact, Yuzna describes it as a spiritual sequel to The Dentist. Bernsen may not be playing the same character and the premise might be a bit more modernized, but according to Yuzna in an interview with Mondo Exploito, this is still “The Dentist, but with a few bells and whistles.”
Read the official synopsis below:
Some people would die to be beautiful. Others definitely will.
The man behind one of the most desirable Beverly Hills cosmetic surgeries is Dr. Mitch Laffer. Ethical, talented and wildly successful, he is the embodiment of the American Dream and does everything in his power to help others be all that they can be.
Mitch takes immense pleasure from spreading joy; be it from helping the ageing ladies of high society to turn back the clock, or bringing smiles to the faces of sick children, which he does by means of his work as the delightful Plucko the Clown.
Sometimes, however, the greatest tragedies befall the finest of men and Mitch’s world falls apart in the blink of an eye. Broken, embittered and brimming with rage, suddenly, where he once saw beauty, he now only sees ugliness – and there’s one sure way that a plastic surgeon can cure that!
As his mania increases, Mitch’s work becomes dangerous and demented, and as for Plucko…well, however much you might trust your cosmetic surgeon, never trust a clown.
THE PLASTIC SURGEON marks the reunification of director Brian Yuzna and star Corbin Bernsen who famously collaborated on THE DENTIST, as they carve a new face into horror.
There’s no news on yet on when we can expect to see The Plastic Surgeon as the film is still in pre-production.
In the meantime, however, Yuzna’s first novel–a religious slasher titled The Pope–will see release on September 1st.
As a fan of Yuzna, I’m just glad to see his name attached to projects again. Hopefully Plastic Surgeon will come to fruition. We’ll have more news as it develops.
