Stephen King’s The Dark Tower has finally begun production. It has been a long and arduous process but the author himself has confirmed, via Twitter, that not only are cameras rolling but Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba are definitely set to star.
Idris Elba (Pacific Rim) will play Roland Deschain and Matthew McConaughey (Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation) will star as The Man in Black. Also attached is Abbey Lee (Mad Max: Fury Road) who will reportedly play Tirana.
According to EW, the film will begin lensing in South Africa in April, and Sony is targeting a February 17, 2017 release date. Sounds like a tight schedule but we will see what happens.
Ron Howard was attached to direct the first installment at one point but now Nikolaj Arcel (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo 2009) is at the helm. Arcel will cowrite the script with Anders Thomas Jensen, Akiva Goldsman, and Jeff Pinkner.
Past reports have alluded to a film series based on the property that would also include a TV mini series that would run in between feature film installments. So, if this does well, there will be a lot more Dark Tower to come. Stay tuned to the site in the coming months for more on The Dark Tower and the latest in horror news as it is announced!
