E3’s major press conferences are over and the PC Conference gave horror fans one last trailer to be excited for. SOMA is a science fiction survival horror video game and the newest experience to come from Frictional Games, creators of the excellent Amnesia: the Dark Descent. We’ve been hearing bits and pieces about this one for a while now, with twelve minutes of gameplay being released as recently as late May (seen here).
Much like the other trailers we’ve seen, this one’s pretty vague on the story details (only clocking at about a minute), but it certainly sets up a particular tone and given the talent involved I’m already intrigued. SOMA plays from a first person POV similar to their previous titles, and once again looks focused more on hiding from the ever-present terror than it does on going in guns blazing. This time they’ve adopted more of a science fiction aesthetic, immediately bringing to mind memories of films like Alien and games like Dead Space, which is a good way to separate it from the Amnesia games.
SOMA will be released for Playstation 4 and PC via Steam on September 22nd, 2015. With a release date coming up that quickly I would definitely expect to find out more information really soon.
