Jessica Harper from Dario Argento’s Suspiria Reveals Cameo in Forthcoming Remake!

Suspiria

Jessica Harper (who played Suzy Bannion) in Dario Argento’s 1977 masterpiece Suspiria has just revealed (via Facebook) that she will be popping up in the upcoming redux. IMDb has Harper’s character credited as Anke. Dakota Johnson will be appearing as Suzy (spelled  Susie this time around) in the reimagining.

The updated version will have a dramatically different color palate from the original and may enjoy a theatrical release later this year via Amazon Studios.

Filming recently wrapped on the project. The film stars Mia Goth, Tilda Swinton, Dakota Johnson, and Chloe Grace Moretz. Amazon Studios financed the project and will be in charge of worldwide distribution, as well.

Director Luca Guadagnino has said that the feature will be set in 1977 Berlin. He has also suggested that we can expect to see strong influences of Fassbinder in his redux.

The project was originally going to be helmed by David Gordon Green but Green eventually parted ways with the project. Guadagnino has previously established that his version will be “very different” from Argento’s original.

In the original, Suzy Bannion arrives in Germany where she is attending an all female dance academy. Once there, she discovers that something about the school is amiss. Things are not as they seem. The faculty is distant and secretive. Her peers have unusual tendencies. People keep dying suspicious but seemingly accidental deaths. And strange goings on abound. Suzy soon begins to suspect that witchcraft is being practiced on the premises. But she must piece it all together before she becomes the next student to meet with a tragic “accident”.
