The Suspiria Trailer Is Here To Melt Your Face Off

Suspiria

It’s been a long time coming, but finally the all-important trailer for this year’s Suspiria reboot is here to drool and obsess over. Whatever your personal feelings on the upcoming movie, rest assured, this trailer is pretty sick — in all senses of the word.

The #1 complaint about the movie was that, aside from being a remake (still a major bone of contention for horror fans in spite of Dawn of the Dead, The Crazies, John Carpenter’s The Thing, etc.), the lurid color palette of the original was not going to be intact.

Now that the trailer is upon us, we can confirm that, well, it might not actually matter that much. Check it out for yourself below, but suffice to say the drained, parched cinematography not only gives it that eerie seventies vibe but also makes even the most mundane moments seem terrifying, such as a gathering in a dreary restaurant. Or Tilda Swinton’s severely parted hair.

Jessica Harper (who played Suzy Bannion in Dario Argento’s 1977 masterpiece) will be making an appearance in the flick, as “Susie” according to IMDb.  Radiohead’s Thom Yorke composed the score, a horrifying little taste of which is offered in the clip below.

The updated version of Suspiria is being directed by Luca Guadagnino and will enjoy a theatrical release later this year via Amazon Studios. The film stars Mia Goth, Tilda Swinton, Dakota Johnson, and Chloe Grace Moretz. Amazon financed the project and will be in charge of worldwide distribution, as well.

Director Guadagnino has said that the feature will be set in 1977 Berlin. He has also suggested that we can expect to see strong influences of Fassbinder in his redux. The Italian auteur has previously established that his version will be “very different” from Argento’s original.

In the original, Suzy Bannion arrives in Germany, where she is attending an all female dance academy. Once there, she discovers that something about the school is amiss. Things are not as they seem. The faculty is distant and secretive. Her peers have unusual tendencies. People keep dying suspicious, but seemingly accidental deaths. And strange goings on abound. Suzy soon begins to suspect that witchcraft is being practiced on the premises. But she must piece it all together before she becomes the next student to meet with a tragic “accident”.

In contrast, the premise for the reboot is as follows:

A young American ballet dancer travels to a prestigious dance academy in Europe, only to discover it is something far more sinister and supernatural. She becomes increasingly terrified after a series of gruesome murders ensue and she slowly unravels the dark history of the academy.

Check out the unbelievably creepy trailer below. We’re clearly in good hands here.

Suspiria hits theaters November 2, 2018.
