We have just learned that the 1976 shocker The Omen is getting a prequel after forty years. Antonio Campos (who directed Christine, the story of a ’70s television reporter, not to be confused with the John Carpenter classic) is currently in negotiations to helm, according to THR. Ben Jacoby penned the screenplay for the project.
The feature is being housed at 20th Century Fox. The origin story is currently known as The First Omen. No word, just yet, on when the picture will hit theaters or specifically what it will be about. But we will keep you apprised as we learn more on this development.
A prequel seems like the logical next step. The film has been given the remake treatment, spawned a series of follow ups, and is currently the subject of a sequel-series on A&E.
