It’s been a little while since we’ve learned anything concrete in relation to Shane Black’s very literally-titled sequel/reboot/whatever it is, The Predator.
The last piece of info of note was the flick nabbing a cinematographer in the form of Larry Fong (300, Watchmen, Sucker Punch, Super 8 and the upcoming Kong: Skull Island).
Filming is set to begin very shortly, with an early 2018 release date set for the movie. And now, according to AvP Galaxy, we may have just learned who’ll be stepping into the titular alien’s boots.
The site noted that IMDb has added stuntman Kyle Strauts (whom horror fans will note starred in fan favourite The Cabin in the Woods) to the cast.
Oh, and he’s listed as playing Predator.
The 6’9″ tall mega-dude hails from Vancouver, Canada, which is coincidentally where The Predator is reportedly being shot. So at least he won’t have to travel too far from home to get to set.
AvP Galaxy also suggested that fellow stuntman, and 6’10” beast, Brian A. Prince (who featured in Marvel mega-hit Captain America: Civil War, among others) might also be strapping on the Predator suit alongside him.
IMDb does not yet list Prince as taking part in the movie, but the performer recently teased on his social media that he’s in Vancouver working on a secret project.
Could this possibly mean we’ll be seeing multiple Predators in the new movie? This would tally with Internet rumours suggesting a brand-new Predator is set to terrorize the cast–one that measures up to ten feet tall.
Shane Black previously told ComingSoon that his Predator will be getting some serious upgrades in terms of costume design, as well as abilities, so this would make a certain amount of sense.
The Predator is due in theaters on February 9, 2018. Olivia Munn is set to star in the rated-R flick, as a scientist, opposite Boyd Holbrook’s Special Forces Commando. Jacob Tremblay, Sterling K. Brown, Keegan-Michael Key and Trevante Rhodes are also set to star. Thomas Jane is rumoured.
Black is directing from a script by the legendary Fred Dekker.
We still don’t know if Arnold Schwarzenegger will be returning to the series or not. However, if he does, it will likely only be in a cameo role. We do know that Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson has suggested (for quite a while at this stage) that he is in talks to star in the film. However, the rapper’s involvement has not been confirmed by anyone other than Fiddy himself.
When the project was first announced, it was rumored that this would be a direct sequel to the first film, ignoring everything that came after it. And Black’s most recent comments about the project all seem to confirm that.
Stay tuned to Wicked Horror for more on The Predator as it’s announced.
