1990’s Blue Steel Is directed by Kathryn Bigelow and stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Ron Silver, Clancy Brown, Elizabeth Pena, and Louise Fletcher. Megan Turner (Curtis) is a rookie NYPD officer that heroically stops a supermarket robbery. Unfortunately, the robber’s gun disappears leading to Megan coming under fire with her supervisor. While dealing with the consequences, Megan meets Eugene (Silver), a yuppie commodities trader that, unknown to Megan, was a hostage at the scene of the crime. Meanwhile, a serial killer uses the missing gun to shoot innocent victims via bullets etched with Megan’s name. The rookie officer reluctantly accepts help from a cynical detective (Clancy) as she realizes that her family and friends are being hunted.

Blue Steel is elevated by a strong cast within a bleak setting tackling feminist themes through the eyes of a rookie cop played by Curtis. Without being preachy, this action-thriller feature showcases a powerhouse performance by Curtis with a slasher undertone and out-of-his-mind serial killer. Blue Steel is for horror fans that would enjoy seeing Jamie Lee Curtis starring in an action film through a slasher lens.
