Last week, we reported that the esteemed, and Oscar-nominated, James Cromwell had joined the cast of the upcoming Jurassic World sequel (which we will simply refer to as Jurassic World 2 until told otherwise).
Now, it appears certain, intriguing plot details may have been revealed. MyEntertainmentWorld have updated their synopsis for the film to note the following:
The adventures at the Jurassic World resort and theme park continue as the government has trained dinosaurs to carry weapons and use them for battle purposes
The idea of weaponised dinos was floated last time around, so it should come as no surprise. The site also noted filming will begin next week, taking in such varied locations as Hawaii, London and, er, Wales.
Director Juan Antonio Bayona further revealed, in a recent interview with The Playlist, that this installment would be “massive and way bigger than [the last] one.”
Bayona also noted the movie is the second part of a proposed trilogy:
It’s the second chapter of a trilogy so it gets the story to a place that wants you leaving more and more
Jurassic World stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are both slated to reprise their roles in the sequel, under the watchful eye of Bayona (who directed horror hit The Orphanage, along with A Monster Calls).
Frank Marshall and Stephen Spielberg will return to executive produce. Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow, who is also exec-producing, and Derek Connolly will pen the script for the forthcoming sequel.
The cast also includes Ted Levine, Daniella Pineda, Justice Smith, Rafe Spall and Toby Jones. There are no character details as of yet.
The 2015 feature grossed $1.67 billion at the global box office, becoming the fourth highest-grossing movie of all time so a sequel should come as no surprise.
The park opens again on June 22, 2018.
Stay tuned to Wicked Horror for more details as they become available.
