THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT (1999)
The Blair Witch Project was filmed in just 8 days and edited in 8 months. Thanks to this extremely quick turn around the movie cost only $22,000 to make, and after it was released made over $240 million. What a profit!
IT (1990)
In the movie It, Pennywise’s hair was actually Tim Curry’s real hair. That red mop of scary spice fuzz that just had to be a wig, was real!
THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS (1991)
The Silence of the Lambs is so far the only horror movie to win Best Picture Oscar. The only others nominated are The Exorcist and Jaws.
SAW FRANCHISE
Guinness lists the Saw film franchise as the current most successful horror series with a total gross of $733,271,976.
POLTERGEIST (1982)
Poltergeist actresses Heather O’Rourke (Carol Ann) and Dominique Dunne (Dana) both died young (12 and 22, respectively). The film itself is considered cursed as the production used real human skeletons dressed in fake rotting flesh when filming the swimming pool scene (because they were cheaper). Many of the people on set were alarmed by this and led others to believe the “curse” on the film series was because of using real skeletons.
THE OMEN (1976)
A multitude of seemingly cursed occasions happened during the making of The Omen. They include separate planes carrying cast/crew being struck by lightning and two car accidents; one including the fatal beheading of a crew members girlfriend. Dog attacks, IRA attacks, fatal lion attacks and a near plane crash, all involving cast or crew of the script.
CARRIE (1976)
Carrie was Stephen King’s first novel, published in 1973. The lead in the movie, Sissy Spacek, was so committed to her role that she insisted upon being buried so it would be her hand (not a double’s) in the final scene.
CANDYMAN (1992)
To ensure that the bees’ stingers wouldn’t be powerful enough to do any real damage they were bred specifically for Candyman. They filmed the bees at just 12 hours old when they look like mature bees but their stingers aren’t as strong.
A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET (1984-1991)
The Freddy glove was so heavy during the original Krueger movies that actor Robert Englund’s arm was weighed down by it, and the reason why Freddy is often seen standing with a lean to the right. It has since become a kind of signature pose.
HALLOWEEN (1978)
The famous mask Michael Myers wore in Halloween is really Captain Kirk himself, William Shatner! The prop people went to Halloween Store, needed a cheap mask, bought one that was William Shatner, paying a whole $2 for it!
Then they spray-painted the face entirely white, worked on the ‘hair’ (nice weave Mister Shatner!) and reshaped the eye holes, which would probably be the primary reason you don’t notice the Capt. Kirk resemblance. Shatner himself didn’t know for years that the Halloween mask Michael Myers wore was based on him until an interviewer brought it up.
